Plans Review - Commercial
This 24-hour course is designed for code enforcement personnel responsible for reviewing commercial plans or fire protection plans. Applicants must have previously completed the Core course. This class is required for certification as Commercial Building Plans Examiner, and for Fire Protection Plans Examiner, and will be scheduled at least twice a year or on an as needed basis. Applicants must have basic construction knowledge, an ability to use the USBC, ICC Codes and other various standards. The course includes hands-on review of several real sets of building plans.

This class focuses on chapters 3 through 12 of the Virginia Construction Code, and will include instruction on:
  • Building planning
  • Use groups, and special requirements based on use
  • Construction type
  • Building height and area
  • Fire separation requirements
  • Fire-resistance-rated construction
  • Interior finish
  • Fire protection systems
  • Means of egress
  • Accessibility
  • Interior Environment
