This course is designed to help inspectors understand and apply the provisions of the building codes, life safety codes, and referenced standards, unique to inspections of elevators and related equipment in Virginia. The course includes a basic intro to how elevators work and components of elevators and other conveyance systems. It is not meant to be a substitute for rigorous job training.
Students will learn to:
(A.) Describe the legal expectations of an elevator inspector and inspection program administrator
(B.) Describe the scope of a Virginia certified elevator inspector’s work
(C.) Apply proper protocols to ensure personal and public safety during an inspection
(D.) Apply codes, references, standards, and guides in order to perform inspections on equipment within the normal scope of the role
(E.) Manage records relating to elevator inspections
