Mechanical & Fuel Gas Inspection - Commercial

This course is designed for all code enforcement individuals responsible for commercial mechanical inspections including Combination Commercial Inspectors. Applicants must have basic mechanical knowledge and must have previously attended the CORE Course. Course modules include, but are not limited to:

  • Virginia Mechanical Code Chapter 1 overview, including Code Modifications, exemptions from permit, minimum inspections, and permit and construction document requirements
  • Mechanical Appliance approval and location requirements, condensate disposal requirements, and clearance reduction methods.
  • Basic ventilation and outdoor air calculation and requirements
  • Exhaust requirements, including clothes dryer exhaust. 
  • Type I and type II grease duct construction, ventilation, exhaust rates, and makeup air.
  • Exhaust Hood fire suppression systems
  • Plenum applications
  • Commercial Fuel Gas Inspection (Appliance/Equipment/Gas Pipe Inspections)

Note: Previously, VBCA just offered one Mechanical Inspection module which covered both Residential and Commercial inspections. Beginning with the 2022 Spring Semster, Mechanical has been split into two modules going forward - Residential and Commercial. The previously offered Mechanical Inspection module will no longer be offered, but will still be accepted for DHCD Mechanical certifications until further notice.
